Auxiliary Fire Fighter
Fire Protective Services
The City of Yorkton is looking for highly motivated individuals, residing in city limits or within close proximity, to become part of our Auxiliary Fire Fighting force. Operating as a composite department, Auxiliary Fire Fighters provide support services to the Full Time Force. If you are interested in a new challenge and in expanding your life skills, these positions provide for a stimulating team building opportunity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, Auxiliary Fire Fighters assist in response, mitigation, and return to service of fire equipment and the facility. Successful candidates will be required to participate in regular and ongoing training and will be placed on an on-call rotation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be 18 years of age, in good physical and mental health and must successfully complete a physical fitness test. RCMP security clearance and a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and abstract are also required. Preference will be given to those possessing current C.P.R., First Aid, and N.F.P.A. or related training/certification.
Hours of Work:
These are paid on-call positions with weekly training provided at the Fire Hall.

Parks & Arena Technician Level 1, II, III or IV
Temporary Full Time
Community Development, Parks & Recreation Department
Parks Division - Open Spaces
A Parks & Arena Technician in the Open Spaces Stream will mainly be responsible for duties associated to the maintenance of the open spaces throughout the City.
Responsibilities:
- Grass cutting
- Maintenance of playgrounds
- Maintenance of trails
- Integrated pest management (mosquito control, weed/insect/pest control)
- Cemetery operations
Other responsibilities include assisting in other various streams in the Parks Division with duties such as:
- Participation in the beautification program
- Snow removal
- Arena operations
- Maintenance of urban forest
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and operation
- Experience handling customer queries and concerns
- Problem solving skills
- Communication skills
- Certification or experience with pesticide application and/or landscaping
- Related parks and/or sports field experience
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver’s license
- Possess and maintain RCMP security clearance

Building Official
The City of Yorkton has a Full Time Building Official position available for a dynamic and highly motivated individual. Reporting directly to the Manager of Building Services this position provides services to residents and clients of the City of Yorkton in the areas of building bylaw and national building code application and enforcement, zoning bylaw application, and business license bylaw administration.
Qualifications:
- Class 1 or 2 Building Official License as issued by Saskatchewan Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing, with 1 to 2 years of relevant experience. Persons with lesser experience may be hired at a developmental level. Extensive construction background and knowledge would be considered an asset.
- Extensive construction background and expertise / knowledge would be an asset, preferably individuals should possess a Journeyman’s Carpentry designation or a diploma / certificate from a Technical college specializing in the Architectural or Civil Technologies.
- The successful person must be knowledgeable, conversant and possess some demonstrated hands-on understanding of municipal operations as it relates to building code application and enforcement, zoning bylaw application and building permit administration.
- Must be highly organized and able to prioritize work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively deal with all levels of staff, government agencies, consultants and the general public.
- Extensive computer skills with competency in windows file management and producing word documents.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License.
- Must possess and maintain RCMP security clearance.
- Must possess strong personal skills and be customer oriented.

Arena Labourer I - Gallagher Centre
Reporting directly to the General Manager of the Gallagher Centre.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Arena Labourer will be performing various duties related to the general operation and maintenance of the multi-purpose Gallagher Centre.
- Daily operation and maintenance of various types of equipment and all areas of the facility, excluding the Water Park.
- Maintaining ice at the Arena.
- Performing set-up and take-down duties for various events and functions.
- Monitoring facility operating systems and reporting situations requiring attention.
- Completes other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalency, with preference for post-secondary education or certification in a related field, experience working in an ice arena environment is an asset.
- Possess strong interpersonal and public relation skills.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and with minimum supervision.
- Possess the ability to understand and comply with safety policies and procedures.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s license.

Seasonal Labourer III
Water and Sewer Division
Public Works Department
This position reports directly to the Water & Sewer Systems Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the installation, repairs and maintenance of water mains, sewer mains, hydrants, valves, service connections.
- Operates, repairs, maintains, services and monitors equipment and stations.
- Maintains and services any Lift stations and Booster stations.
- Installation and maintenance of storm sewer mains, including installation and maintenance of any catch basins, and related appurtenances.
- Installation, reading, reconditioning and calibration of water meters and associated instrumentation.
- Knowledge of thawing water mains and sewer service.
- Ability to read and update Water Distribution and Wastewater Collections system maps.
- Must be available for rotational weekends and on-call.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or GED.
- 3 months experience in construction or related field
- Most possess and maintain valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Valid Class 3A Driver’s Licence is preferred)
- Must possess and maintain RCMP Security Clearance
- The following will be considered an asset: WHIMIS; Ground Disturbance; Confined Space; Rigging and Hoisting; Safe Trenching and Trench Rescue for Excavations
- Mechanically inclined, any related education or experience in equipment operation or maintenance would be considered an asset
- Knowledge in use of video/computer equipment for sewer and services mains

Roadways Manager
Roadways Division
Public Works Department

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and co-ordinate necessary infrastructure improvements based on identified needs.
- Schedule and manage all work task assignments for departmental employees and contractors.
- Manage and assist in development of annual operating budget, capital budget and long term capital plans.
- Development of policies, procedures and standards relative to roadway operation and maintenance.
- Manage all maintenance programs for roads, sidewalks, curb and gutter, laneways and any other associated infrastructure as well as the City’s drainage systems.
- Oversee installation, maintenance and replacement of traffic control devices (signage and traffic signals, etc.) and City owned street lights.
- Manage winter snow removal and ice control operations.
- Manage and document all activities regarding the Urban Connector Program. Act as a liason between the Ministry of Highways and the City of Yorkton.
- Monitor and update infrastructure database software (AssetNav) for all roadway and related infrastructure.
- Track all annual roadway division expenses and update unit pricing for budgetary purposes.
- Prepare tender documentaion for contracted services.
- Provide input as required to engineering consultants for the preparation of road designs and other projects.
- Organize and prioritize work assignments.
- Assist in preparing council reports related to the departments operations.
- Liaison with other utilities to provide permission for them to do maintenance and capital projects.
- On-Call Supervisor for Public Works approximately every 5 to 6 weeks (oversees any required emergency work done by Public Works employees).
Qualifications:
- Technical Diploma A.Sc.T.
- Computer Training: Excel, Word, Outlook
- Saftety Training: SCOT/WHMIS, OHS Level 1 and 2, OHS Supervision & Safety, Ground Disturbance, Leadership Safety Excellence, Confined Space, Trench Rescue for Excavations, First Aid/CPR cerrtificate, Fireman’s Boiler certificate, Management/Supervisory training.

City Controller

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the City Controller supervises all accounting functions within the Finance Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises all accounting functions: accounts payable, accounts receivable, utilities, parking tickets, bank reconciliation, and general ledger
- Review/prepare all journal entries including reconciling all sub-ledgers on a monthly basis
- Directs the department with day to day transactions
- Prepares various external and internal reports such as variance analysis, GST returns, statistical reports for Statistics Canada, Provincial/Federal Grand applications and follow ups
- Maintain all accounting records, including preparation of all financial statements in conjunction with Director of Finance
- Ensure proper execution of purchasing policies, credit applications, and procedures
- Research, develop, review and recommend procedures and policies for key finance functions
- Responsible for Tangible Capital Asset project development and maintenance
- Handles any public financial inquiries
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and public relations skills
- Bachelor Degree in Commerce or Administration – major in accounting or finance
- CGA, CMA, CA designation preferred
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; including advanced excel spreadsheet skills
- Knowledge and ability to interpret legislation, agreements/leases and processes
- Knowledge of accounting and principals governing the public sector
- Possess and maintain RCMP security clearance

Seasonal Labourer III

- Individual must be multifunctional in various operations, capable of performing the following labour duties: asphalt placement, raking and rolling asphalt, reading and marking grades on new construction projects, application of dust suppressants, and crack-sealing.
- Perform skilled labour duties on various related projects that the City of Yorkton may be required to undertake.
- Perform daily equipment checks and minor maintenance as required.
- Completes work orders, time sheets, and required reports promptly and accurately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Competently operate required equipment under a minimum of supervision and at irregular shifts.
- Follows all O.H.S. Regulations, Company Safety Policies and S.O.P.'s.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Education or GED Equivalency
- Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 3A Driver’s License with Air Endorsement is an asset)
