The Yorkton Liquor Store (2003) was the first project to see the installation of the acorn style fixture with the decorative pole. The “antique style” with the contemporary metal halide pulse start lamp was chosen in consultation with the Downtown Business Association to reflect and blend with the character of Yorkton’s historic buildings. The formation of the Yorkton Business Improvement District in 2005, allowed for the installation of nineteen poles and fixtures on Broadway Street between Betts Avenue and Fourth Avenue. This partnership between the City and the business community will be extended over the remaining areas of the Downtown Core and West Broadway Corridor with a total estimated project cost of $2.5 million.
The Phase II areas (2007-2010) require the burying of the overhead Sask Power lines and where required the installation of new sidewalk and curbing. These areas will be phased in accordance with agreements with Sask Power as well as the City’s and the Yorkton BID’s redevelopment efforts. These areas are as follows:
The following attachments provide detail specifications of the two types of proposed lighting: The Downtown lighting design consists of two 200-watt pulse start metal halide luminaires in an acorn style fixture mounted on a 125mm (5”) steel pole reaching a total height of approximately 6.7m (22’). The pole, bracket, and 1.05 metre decorative shroud at the base containing the City of Yorkton logo, will be burgundy in color to match those at the liquor store and between Betts and Fourth Avenue. This style of lighting is designed to support and be compatible with the heritage theme of the Downtown core. West Broadway Decorative Lighting The West Broadway lighting design consists of two 150-watt pulse start metal halide luminaires that will have full cutoff to prevent uplighting and spillover onto adjacent properties. A decorative LED ring will be provided at the top of the fixture as an accent feature. Similar to the Downtown the pole and fixture will reach a height of approximately 6.7m (22’). The pole, bracket, and 1.05 metre decorative shroud at the base containing the City of Yorkton logo, will be in a blue color to match the lights in the Yorkton Public Library parking lot. This modern style of lighting is designed to support and be compatible with the redevelopment theme of the West Broadway Corridor. |
