It has been a fantastic nine years serving the taxpayers of Yorkton on city council. I have had the honor to serve the last three years as your Mayor. I have done my best to make sure Yorkton got back to prudent spending and the new water treatment plant and fire hall being on budget prove that. The people of Yorkton are not afraid of the costs of growth but want their city council to spend that money wisely.
We have addressed safety concerns by hiring two more police officers and working cooperatively with the Chamber of Commerce and the Province to hire another two. We have made the investments in infrastructure needed to make Yorkton grow. You will see more roads being fixed and more water and sewer lines being replaced as well as newer, safer sidewalks. We have had open dialogue with the Parkland College about expansion and are committed to seeing the airport grow as well.
We have made fair offers to both RM’s in our annexation discussions but have been shown only hostility and greed. I will not let the taxpayers of Yorkton overpay to unreasonable demands and the Province will have to settle these issues as soon as possible or growth for our city will be stifled.
I plan to ask the tough questions and keep dealing with our growth issues as well as work with our housing taskforce to improve rental developments in the city. Finding a suitable home for The Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame, expansion of the Godfrey Dean Gallery and twinning the Kinsmen are on my wish list and with proper planning, provincial and federal support and local fundraising we should see even more exciting projects in Yorkton, the city “Where Good Things Happen”!!
